Simultaneous Thermal Analyser (STA)

The Simultaneous Thermal Analyser (STA) at AMRICC is an advanced analytical instrument combining two powerful thermal analysis techniques: Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) within a single piece of equipment.

Technical Description

The STA (a Linseis STA PT 1750) precisely measures thermal transitions and mass changes simultaneously, providing comprehensive thermal characterisation. It operates efficiently at temperatures ranging from ambient up to 1750°C. The analyser supports various atmospheres, including non-corrosive, inert, or oxidising gases such as air, argon, and nitrogen, and allows precise control of gas mixtures to replicate specific processing conditions.

Uses and Applications

Our advanced Simultaneous Thermal Analyser is widely utilised across several critical industries, including ceramics, metallurgy, polymers, pharmaceuticals, and research & development sectors. It is particularly beneficial for:

  • Determining material stability and degradation behaviours through Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
  • Analysing phase transitions like melting, crystallisation, and glass transitions via Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
  • Evaluating the thermal stability of advanced ceramics, metals, composites, and mineral-based materials
  • Researching and developing new materials, where precise characterisation of thermal properties is essential

Benefits of Using Our STA

Using our Simultaneous Thermal Analyser offers substantial advantages for accurate and detailed materials analysis:

  • Efficiency: Combined TGA and DSC reduce sample requirements, analysis time, and costs compared to separate instruments
  • Accuracy: Simultaneous measurement ensures precise correlation between mass changes and thermal transitions
  • Flexibility: Broad operational atmospheres (inert, oxidising, or air) and temperature range make it adaptable for extensive material types
  • Cost-Effective: Ideal for scarce, expensive, or small sample quantities due to minimal sample size requirements
  • Quality Assurance: Enables consistent, repeatable results critical for quality assurance and materials development
  • Complimentary tests: A wide range of thermal, chemical, and physical tests are available to ensure you are able to obtain the full range of information that you need
