Cold Isostatic Press (CIP) - High-Pressure Powder Consolidation

The Cold Isostatic Press (CIP) at the AMRICC Centre provides industry-leading capabilities for consolidating powdered materials through uniform high-pressure application.

Technical Description

This high-performance CIP operates effectively up to an exceptional 4000 Bar (400 MPa), enabling precise powder pressing within flexible moulds submerged in a specialised pressure-transmitting fluid. With dimensions of 300 mm diameter by 750 mm depth, our equipment accommodates a diverse range of part sizes and shapes, offering flexibility for material processing requirements.

The CIP equipment applies uniform pressure in all directions, effectively reducing internal porosity and achieving homogenous density across processed components. This uniformity ensures enhanced structural integrity and predictable mechanical performance.

Uses and Applications

The Cold Isostatic Press is a crucial tool across numerous sectors, including ceramics, aerospace, automotive, defence, medical, and energy industries. Key applications include:

  • Pressing ceramic and metallic powders into high-quality billets for precision machining
  • Consolidating pre-formed components to refine density uniformity
  • Preparing materials for subsequent sintering and hot-pressing processes
  • Manufacturing complex and intricate parts within tight dimensional and performance specifications
  • Prototyping and small-batch production, ideal for research and developmental activities

Benefits of Using Our Cold Isostatic Press

Choosing our CIP technology provides tangible benefits to your business operations:

  • Exceptional Density Uniformity: Ensures uniform material properties, significantly enhancing the performance and reliability of finished components
  • Reduced Porosity: Significantly minimises internal defects, improving mechanical strength and durability
  • Flexibility and Versatility: Capable of processing various materials and complex geometries, supporting innovative product development
  • Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness: Reduces machining requirements post-pressing, optimising production workflows
  • High Capacity and Performance: Accommodates larger components due to generous chamber dimensions, suitable for diverse manufacturing demands

The CIP is supported by our physical testing laboratories which can test your material for properties such as density, porosity, and strength.
